Variable-speed drive (VSD)

An electronic controller that varies motor speed by changing the supply frequency.

Also VFD or inverter. Saves energy on fans and pumps and softens starting on conveyors and crushers. A VSD-fed motor is specified with its inverter duty and any required insulation and bearing protection.
